Paint and the finishing touches!

More hours of agonizing and I finally picked a paint color. I really, really wanted to paint it a color called Melodrama... just because the name seemed so appropriate -- but I decided that was a little too dark, so I went one shade lighter, which they call Mulberry Frost, but I prefer to think of as Light Melodrama.

The first step was to wash the walls with TSP... the first disaster was discovering that the texture Sean had applied to the drywall patches was water soluble.

The next step was to mask around all the parts I didn't want painted... and then apply lots o' paint. The next disaster was discovering that the tape doesn't give you a very good seal when applied to textured walls. So, I had pink on the ceiling where the paint had oozed under the tape... and in some places, white on the walls where I hadn't quite got the new paint into the corner.

So, the next step was to take a bucket of white paint, a bucket of Mulberry Frost paint and my very smallest watercolor brush... and well, you can probably figure it out! Hours later I had a very stiff neck, but a more-or-less presentable paint job.

After the paint dried, George installed new baseboard, which I painted white. Then we installed the new toilet (which of course necessitated an extra trip to Home Depot when we discovered that the old valve was leaking). George and I reinstalled the medicine cabinets; Robin and I reinstalled the new light fixtures (which led to a discovery that had me wondering yet again -- "Sean, what were you thinking????"). Then I caulked around the new toilet, added some new accessories, and VOILA -- new bathroom (with minutes to spare before my family arrives)!
