May 2001
George and I went to Vegas for a weekend and had a great time.
George closed escrow on his new house.
Robin and I went to Sea World, where Robin had a dolphin adventure!
I had a birthday... and turned 29 again! Here's some pics of the lovely birthday flowers from my brother Tom.

June 2001
Spent some time with some old NCR buddies.
My dad turned 70 on June 12th. For Father's Day, we had a surprise birthday/Father's Day celebration for him.
Spent a lot of time with George, agonizing over paint colors, carpet and tile samples.

And... last but not least...

Quit my job! Bet you thought I'd never do it :-)

July 2001
Started my sabbatical from work on July 3rd. Since I was still "on call" at work through August 2nd, I don't think I actually got much stress relief during July. But then again, it takes a while to recover from 11 years of stress!
During my last days at work, took a bunch of pictures of the gang. Check them out here.
Attended a Cowboy Junkies concert at Humphrey's by the Bay with George. Not sure how, but we ended up with front row seats. Initially, that seemed like a good thing, but once we got there we realized we were so close to the stage (which towers several feet above you) that we couldn't really even see the band. Other than the bad view, the concert was great.

They wouldn't let us take pictures at the concert... but here's a nice shot of the bay:

August 2001
August 2nd was my last official day at work. Yay! I started getting into this "not working" thing a little. I signed up for a two-weekend watercolor class at Palomar College, and I spent a lot of time painting... although I don't think I've painted that million dollar masterpiece yet. Drat!
On August 7th, Alcatel laid off about 20% of the Genesys employees. See my work page for more info.
I attended several free summer concerts in Carlsbad. Hooked up with Lois and some of her friends there. Lois is a dancing machine... let me tell you. Robin snapped some pictures of us out on the dance floor... but due to the low light conditions, they came out blurry (probably a good thing!). Anyway here's one of them:

Can you find me and Lois in there?? That blonde lady in the front has sure got a lot of action going on!
Attended a party at Tom Gold's house in honor of Mark Sidell (one of the original Forte folks and the author of Agent).
Went to the zoo with Robin and her neighbor, Kathy.... who is probably in her seventies... and she still walked circles around me and Robin!

The Stilt Birds were one of the highlights of the visit. It was amazing how much control the riders had over the "birds"... and how much fun they had startling passersby! Check them out:

Sadly, I had to put Blue Eyes "to sleep" on August 17th.

September 2001
Robin and I spent a wonderful day at the Wild Animal Park.
Robin and I also spent a day hiking in a park near Julian.
I started my two art classes at UCSD Extension. I was taking Introduction to Painting and Color Theory. They both turned out to be very interesting... though neither was exactly what I'd anticipated. Here's some of my latest paintings.

October 2001
Spent some time with Robin discussing her landscape plans and visiting nurseries. Check out her landscape progress at www.robintree.com
Attended another Forte/Genesys gathering at Will's house.
Andrea hosted Bunco at my house.

November 2001
Attended yet another Forte/Genesys gathering at Jim Power's house.
Worked with George to remodel his dining room and paint his kitchen.

December 2001
Attended a huge Forte/Genesys gala at Jon Berke's house.
Celebrated Christmas with Tom, George & Robin.
