Sean and I got together Monday afternoon to discuss the project and take the first of many visits to Home Depot.
The real work began today.
Whole House Fan
The first task really had nothing to do with the bathroom remodel, but it allowed me to procrastinate a little on decisions for the bathroom remodel. I had Sean install a whole house fan that has been sitting in my garage for 6 months!
First he places the template on the ceiling in the upstairs hall...
then he cuts a BIG hole in the ceiling.
He rearranges some duct work in the attic...
poses for the camera...
and voila! Giant fan installed.
Meanwhile, Toby hangs out under the bed and looks concerned. Mickey was hiding behind the washing machine. I think the kitties are in for a tramatic few weeks.
Sean spent some time rearranging the duct work in the attic (he decided it wasn't perfect enough) and then gave me the bad news that he can't complete the electrical hook-up for the fan because it requires its own circuit. I get Robin on the phone and she agrees to come over and do some investigating. Unfortunately, when she visits on Thursday, she concurs.
Guest Bathroom - Demolition
Then the real fun begins. Sean tells me to get ferocious and go forth and destroy.
Then he inspects the damage and decides that maybe he should take over.
The first few tiles he removes disclose an area that was not waterproofed correctly. I worry about what else lurks behind the wall.
By days end, we have a big mess... but nothing too scary as far as damage... yet.
By Thursday, two of the three shower walls are destroyed... and Sean carts of bunch of debris to the dump.
... the shower demolition is done and Sean has started to frame in the new soap dish and shampoo enclosures.
The only additional scary thing he found was an area where the master bath tub (which shares the back wall of the guest shower enclosure) did not appear to have been correctly installed. Some water damage is evident.
Sean went to Home Depot to get supplies for the waterproofing portion of the project and hauled the rest of the debris to the dump. On Monday, he starts installing the wallboard in the tub enclosure... which means I'd better get some shower fixtures and tile picked out SOON!
